Where Them Chips At

For health, we were required to write a rap song or a PSA on eating healthy. My friends Dawson, Alex, Quinn and I chose to write a rap song. We used the song “Where Them Girls At” as a model for our song. The link below is our rap song. Feel free to comment on it to tell us what you thought of it. I hope you enjoy it!

Barriers To Migration

In geography class, we were assigned to do seminars, For those that do not know what seminars are, it is when you get a chapter and you are to present that chapter to the class in a presentation. My group used the website www.prezi.com. Our chapter was on”Barriers to Migration.” This is where immigrants want to migrate to a new country but there a re barriers such as physical barriers or procedural barriers you have to get through in order to enter the country. If you watch our presentation below you will learn about barriers to migration. Feel free to comment on this post to tell me what you thought of it.

For language, we had to write a cold write persuasive piece. For my grade, we were writing editorials. I wrote mine on why I think school lunches shoSchool+busuld be earlier. Down below is my persuasive piece. Feel free to comment and tell me what you think I could improve on the next time I am going to write an editorial.

Why Lunch at School Should Be Earlier

 To: The Principle

Are you hungry before lunch while attending school? I agree with the fact that many students during school time are very hungry before lunch. Maybe they ate breakfast late or didn’t eat breakfast at all. This could be solved in a very easy, simple change; earlier lunches. This would help out a lot because the students are hungry, the last block of the school day is too short, and kids don’t have to get up all the time during class to go get a snack. All of this may be true but is it worth it? Yes!

In my opinion, earlier lunches could have a large impact on how the students learn. For example, when someone is hungry, they are more focussed on waiting to eat their food instead of listening to what their teaching is telling them to do. I know when I am hungry; I am more focussed on what I am going to eat, instead of paying attention to whatever I am doing. By the cause of this, students may miss what they have to do for homework that night, or any major assignments they may want to start working on. Then again, earlier lunches could solve this problem.

Another reason why I think lunches at school should be earlier is because since the first block is so long, it cuts the last block down to 50 minutes which ‘is not enough time to actually get deep into a subject. This does not as much affect the students as it does the teachers. I believe they do not have enough time to get into a subject and tech the lesson to the best of their ability because the time length just isn’t long enough. Once again, having an earlier lunch could solve this problem.

My last major argument why I think lunches should be earlier while at school is that kids aren’t always getting up from their seats to get a snack. Whole leaving their seat, they may miss something very important about that lesson and may not hear assigned work. Some people may say that the lunches should be later around 12:00 because that is about the time we eat on the weekends. I do not agree with them because if you are just sitting there, you are going to get very hungry because that’s what you are always thinking of.

As I said earlier on, one simple, little change could make a difference in every student’s school life because once they make that change, students will not be hungry and they will be able to be fully focussed on whatever they are learning in class. This is just my opinion of why I think that school lunches should be earlier, but what is yours

Sincerely, Jared

Where In The World

While spending time on the computers, we used Google Earth and a website called Where In The World. This website is very unique as it gives you pictures that you can find on Google Earth and it gives you clues of where to find it. We experimented this website today and I chose to find a place in Bima Bay, Indonesia. Here is a screen shot of what I found on Google Earth.

Here is some information on Bima Bay, Indonesia incase you have never heard of this location before.

~ This location is on the island of Sumbawa.

~ This Bay has a vaiety of different resources such as the Bima Bay Harbour along with the island of Kambing Island.

~ Located in Indonesia.

I find this location very interesting as I have never heard of this Bay before now. This is one of the spots where I would like to visit becasuse it seems very unique as you can see in the landscape from a birds eye view off of Google Earth. Try out this website above if you are looking for a challenge on Google Earth. Good Luck.

2011 Year In Review

For class, we watched a video called a “Year in review.” This is when someone takes important topics to themthat had happened in let’s say 2011, and they put them in a one minute video, or in my case; 37 to remind people of the big events that had happened in the past year. We then had to make our own video for class. I really enjoyed making this video because it reminded me what good and not so good events happened this year. Up above is my video on the year ”2011 Year In Review.”Happy+Fresh+Green+New+Year%21

Now that you have seen my video, it is time for me to explain why I chose those images to put in my video. Most of the topics I could just think of off the top of head but there was a limit we could have for images which was 15. If you really try you could probably think of 15 topics but I found it really hard sinse a lot of things good and bad happened in the past year of 2011. I chose my piuctures based on if I thought they were important. To start it off, I chose the earthquake/tsunami that happened in Japan last March break because over that time, I was in Jamaica and some people there thought that the water was going to travel over to their country. This affected me alot. The royal wedding was another big event for me because when I was younger, I had babysitters that imagrated from England and it just kind of came to me that this is a big event so yes, I did wake up early enough to watch the wedding. Those are the two topics that I knew I was going to use right from the start. Feel free to leave any comments to tell me what you thought.

Now it is time to move onto the question which is-

What was the most world changing event of 2011?

In my opinion, I think they were all very interesting and important but if I had to choose just one, it would probably be the earthquake/tsunami that happened over the last March break in Japan. The reason I say that this is the most world changing event of 2011 is because if you know or not, this nuclear power plant was located right on the coast of the ocean and when the earthquake hit and the tsunami hit, there was a nuclear explosion at the plant,  and a lot of radioactive acid got into the ocean which got everyone worrying that it was going to affect our oceans water and possibly our land. The news spread so fast that the day after it happened, it was already in Jamaica and that’s pretty fast considering most people in Japan wouldn’t have found out about it for a while if you did not live close to the nuclear power plant. One other reason why I state that this topic was the most world changing event of 2011 was that we know that the radioactive acid has already made it to the other side of the world because they are finding furniture such as couches and kitchen appliances like fridges on the coast of Miami and in British Columbia. Since these items have already traveled across the ocean, we know for a fact that this acid has traveled across as well. This could cause many problems with our environment as it could kill anything in it’s path such as animals, fish and more importantly, it could end up killing humans living on the land of the radioactive acid water coasts. I am very lucky to be living in the center of two countries because I am a fare way away from our oceans so it is very unlikely it would affect my community that I live in. As a matter of fact, I did my current events (This is when you pick a current topic and you go in front of the class and talk about it) on how the government of Japan and environmental specialists were having thoughts about how they might close the power plant down for good and not even try to clean it up because it will take approximately decades to clean up the mess . I feel, in my opinion that in the 37 seconds of my video, it was the picture that really stood out to me and it really got me wondering how I could help these people in need that have been having trouble after this horrible explosion.

Thankyou for watching my video on my “Year In 37 Seconds” and for reading my opinion on the most world changing event of 2011. This is just ‘my’ opinion, what is ‘yours?’ Fell free to comment on this post to tell me your thoughts about what you think was the most world changing event of 2011.

2011 Blog Challenge Nominations

For the very last step in the 2011 student blogging challenge, we have to nominate people for different categories that we think should win. There are different varieties of categories when we have to nominate just one blog. Down below are my nominations and who I think should win in the 2011 student blogging challenge.

Best Individual Blog

Bella’s Blog

I like this blog because it really seems like she puts a lot of work into her posts. We have also been commenting on eachothers blog lately. I think this is an excellent blog and that is why I am nominating Bella’s blog for the best individual blog.

Best New Blog

 Jen’s Blog

I chose Jen’s blog because she seems like she spends a lot of time writing her posts as the sizes of them are quite large.

Best Class Blog

 Mrs. Hammans Blog

I chose this class blog because like my teachers class blog, it has a good use of pictures and with each picture, it has a link back to where they got it from which is very good in a blog.

Best Student Blog

Noah’s Blog

The reason I chose this blog is because it seems like he is really into hunting as you can see by the camafloge on the blog. I think he really expresses about hunting and he focuses on it in his posts which I think is very cool and exiting to read.

I have 19 comments all together since the begining of this year.

Which post received the most comments? Why do you think that happened?

The post that received the most comments was my “World Hunger ” post. the reason that i think this happened is because it is all true facts and I think it was interesting so they wanted to read on. I think that if a post is interesting, people want to comment on it which is what happened to this post.

Which post did you enjoy writing the most and why?

I enjoyed writing my super hero story because you could just use your imagination to create an amusing story that would be interesting for visitors to your blog that read that post.

Reflecting on 2011 Blog Challenge

For challenge challenge 10, Mrs. Wyatt put up questions for us to reflect on on what we thought we did on the 2011 Student Blogging Challenge. Down below are the questions which are in red and my answers which are green, as always as you can see on my blog you are reading off of. I hope you enjoy my responses on the questions below.

Did you visit the actual challenge on the blog each week or did your teacher have a post on your class blog?

My teacher did explain the activities he wanted us to complete but to further explain it, he left the link to the challenge from Mrs. Wyatt’s blog so we could go there as well which was very helpful.

Which challenges were the most useful?

The challenge that I thought was the most useful was challenge three because one of the activities in this challenge is when you has to explain how to write a good post. I am a second year blogger so I learned from last year but for new bloggers, it could help them write good comments and that would attract people to anyone’s blog which is awesome.

Which challenges were the most interesting?

In my opinion, challenge 6 was very interesting and just fun to read others posts because it was the challenge where you had to write about a world issue. I chose world hunger but reading about others choices was very interesting and it was amusing to read.

What would be some other topics you would like included in future challenges?

Some other topics that I would like to include would be is where you had to find a blog from certain countries. this would give us a variety of people all around the world.

Are more tutorial type challenges needed? eg. how to make a link in your po    Were the ‘Visit these’ posts useful?

I think it is perfect right now because if you have too many, there will not be as much as every other kind of post like the one I just mentioned above.

Were the challenges where you had to embed ie polls, cartoons, wall wisher etc interesting or could you not embed due to being a free Edublogs blog or a blogging platform that didn’t low embedding?

Yes, I thoughjt they were very interesting because it was just you creating them.

Were there enough chances to visit blogs from overseas and make links with other students/classes?

Yes, I thought there wqas enough of overseas commenting. In fact, we just did that in challenge eight.

Classes that registered – were there enough activities specific to classes?

I do not recall many class activities so I think that there could be more.

Did you make global connections?

Yes, I did make global connections throughout the challenge with all of the challenges and activities.

Anything else you would like to mention about the challenge in particular

I think this is a very good idea to have this challenge because since last year when I started blogging, I can see how my writing has improved and I just enjoy completing the challenges and meeting new people world wide.

Favourites

If you really think about it, there are a lot of things that you just love doing or playing with. Well, in my opinion, the reason this is, is because we take most of the things we own for granted. For challenge 9, we had to write a post about our favourites. We could write three paragraphs about one topic or three paragraphs for three different topics. Down below I will talk about my favourites.Les+Roches+Sur+l%27Eau+de+la+Plage I going to put a little twang to this post so I hope you enjoy my post about my three favourite roller coasters. Starting from #3 and down to #1. I hope you enjoy.

#3

My third favourite roller coaster would have to be one with an amazing force. As a matter of fact, the name of this roller coaster actually has the word ‘Force’ in it. What is this force beast called, “Millenium Force.” This coaster is located at ‘Cedar Point’ in Sandisky, Ohio USA. This is a Giga coaster that is 310 feet tall and is known as the “Steel Scream Machine.” This roller coaster opened in the year of 2000 and broke 10 world records in  it’s life time so far. It is Cedar Point’s star attraction. The force of 93 mph. and a drop of 80 degrees, I can see why people come to Cedar Point just to ride this push of a lifetime. When I traveled to Cedar Point the first time, I was very scared to ride it bu i was also even scared to look at it because I knew that if I kept on, it would just freak me out even more. The last three times that I have visited this coaster, I did not chicken out and I have came over my phobia of riding “Millenium Force!” And let me tell you, it was an amazing experience!

#2

The second roller coaster to my list is also at Cedar Point. It is the “Maverick” and it is new to Cedar Point since 2007. This roller coaster is special because it doesn’t raise you to high heights like every other roller coaster, it only takes you up a hill of 105 feet. This hill continues on for 400 feet then pushes you down a 105 flife...+as+Official+Wallpaper+in+Ubuntu+10.10oot drop at a 94 degree angle. Imagine ‘that’! One thing I like about this roller coaster is that half way through the ride, you go under a little building which you are stopped under and then launched again straight forward seeing the light of the opening hole getting closer and closer and larger and larger. It also takes you to another side of the lake side of the amusement park where you complete a turn and water is shot behind you as you pass by. This looks very interesting when you are watching others ride it and it kind of gives you that extra push to make yourself go on it. This is just another wonderful roller coaster at Ceadar Point!

#1

There is absolutely one roller coaster in the entire world that I just can’t get my mind off of. It is #1 on my list. This magnificent invention stands out to me so much because the force is just so amazing. All roller coasters amuse me but there is one specific roller coaster that is at the top of the chart for me and catches my eye or even ear when I see it and hear the name. Where is this beast located; “Cedar Point” in Sandusky, Ohio USA. It is the one, the only, “Top Thrill Dragster!” This roller coaster is the second fastest and second tallest roller coaster in the wCedar+Point+2007orld. It is second to the “Kingda Ka” located at “Six Flags Great Adventure” in New Jersey, USA. Top Thrill Dragster is the only “Strata Coaster at Cedar Point. This means that this roller coaster has a full circuit and has a lift or a drop of 400 feet and over. Top Thrill Dragster is 420 feet tall and travels at a speed of 120 mph. This coaster cost 25 million dollars to build to make this amazing force of attraction. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to Cedar Point to experience this roller coaster. I rode on the front car and let me tell you, it was a ’thrill.’ If you have the opportunity to ride Top Thrill Dragster, make sure you do and force yourself to”Race For The Sky!” (Top Thrill Dragster logo.)

Conclusion

I really enjoy learning and seeing these roller coasters in action. There are many different thrill rides at Cedar Point but I chose these three because they are the most well known roller coasters around. In my opinion, these are the best roller coasters in any amusement park which is why I call them my“Favourites”

To see these roller coasters in action, go to youtube.com and type in what ever roller coaster it is and then (Pov) This will bring you to an on ride video where yo can ride it yourself. This is mostly what I spend my time on youtube on.

I think it would be cool if someone else had to same favourite as me so don’t be afraid to comment because I would love to know.
